As the son of NBA royalty, all eyes are on Bronny James as he approaches the next stage of his basketball career. While the jury is still out on what potential he has, Bronny isn’t currently projected to be a top lottery pick. In fact, according to some scouts, he may not get picked up until the second round.
“The hope is that Bronny can stay healthy and impact USC for the remainder of the season… He’s a very good defender’,” a scout told The Messenger’s Jeff Goodman. “Strong, athletic, good ball-mover, some potential as a shooter. Limited ability to create his own shot. I don’t see him as a lottery pick or maybe even a first-rounder.”
Bronny, 19, has yet to make his season debut for USC after suffering a serious health scare this past summer. But after being cleared to play by doctors, James Jr. is set to pick up where he left off and set up a collision course with his father in the NBA.
Bronny James Is A Wildcard
Barring any injuries or extreme circumstances, Bronny’s NBA future is a given at this point. Even so, there are a lot of questions about what’s in store for this kid. With averages of 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game for the Sierra Canyon Trail Blazers, Bronny has shown a lot of promise already and there is widespread excitement about what kind of player he will grow up to be.
Still, Bronny doesn’t quite live up to the name on the back of his jersey. At least, right now, he’s looking more like a future NBA role-player than an actual, bonafide superstar. Of course, only time will tell how accurate the scouts are about his game but he will have the support of his dad no matter where he’s drafted and that’s the only thing that matters.
LeBron James Will Follow His Son
Perhaps the biggest story surrounding Bronny’s basketball career is the trajectory of LeBron. Over the past few months, James made it clear that one of his biggest goals right now is to be teammates with his son and that means whichever team lands Bronny will also land LeBron. As one of the best players in the world (still), LeBron’s plans could shift the balance of power in the NBA and it could have a direct impact on which team picks up Bronny in the draft.
Ultimately, until the big day happens, it’s all just speculation on the matter but the way Bronny has handled the pressure so far and persevered through a scary health crisis, speaks volumes about his character as a competitor and his commitment to making his dreams come true. For USC this season, expect Bronny to give everything on the court in an effort to show the world what he can do and the pressure will be higher than ever for him to deliver a strong performance and make good on the James family name.
