Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has exceeded all expectations as the successor of Tom Brady following his incredible performance in the team’s NFC Wild Card victory over the Phialdelphia Eagles on Monday night at Raymond James Field.
Mayfield, 28, joins Brady as the only two quarterbacks in franchise history to throw for more than 300 yards during a postseason game. They even defeated the same team in their first playoffs appearance for Tampa Bay.

Brady, 46, lost to the Dallas Cowboys last year in the wild card round during his final career game. After retiring, Bucs acquired the services of Mayfield, who never wanted to be like his predecessor.
“He wasn’t trying to be Tom,” Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles once said. “You’re not going to replace Tom, ever — nobody is. He’s a legend, he’ll go down in the Hall of Fame.”
Can Baker Mayfield surpass Tom Brady?
While one playoff win is enough to remove Brady’s shadow away from Mayfield. only a Super Bowl victory will make the latter more iconic than the former in Tampa Bay.
Buccaneers see Brady almost like a guest quarterback nice enough to give them a ring after leaving the New England Patriots, his actual team, but they could claim Mayfield as their own with further success.
Mayfield will look to do just that when they visit the Detroit Lions next Sunday, January 21 for a Divisional Round clash.
