The Dallas Cowboys have a lot to figure out in the off-season. They have to pay big money to several of their players, including quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Prescott is set to enter the final year of his current contract in 2024. The Cowboys see Prescott as their long-time leader and will look to get an extension as soon as possible.

Amidst this, a new report from Bleacher Report’s NFL insider, Jordan Schultz, suggests the Cowboys quarterback is looking to reset the market for the QBs with a historic deal. According to Schultz, Prescott is looking to sign a $60 million per year deal with the Cowboys.

Currently no quarterback in the league is earning an annual average salary of $60 million. The 2023 off-season saw several quarterbacks, including Joe BurrowLamar Jackson, and Justin Herbert, cross the $50 million mark, with Burrow being the highest-paid of them all.

And now, Prescott is looking to reset the QB market with a whopping $60 million per year deal. Will the Cowboys give it to him? Well, the top executives of the Dallas-based football team have been very clear that they see Prescott as their long-time QB. They could hold the playoff failures against him during negotiations and bring down the asking price, but they are expected to make Prescott the highest-paid player in the league.

Still, anything could change. The Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently said he is going all in this year to win the title and won’t be focused on building for the future. So, a contract extension for Prescott or Lamb is not expected to happen in this off-season, which could either be a good or bad thing for the QB.

If Prescott can mirror his 2023 regular season performance and win a couple of playoff games, he will have the high ground during next year’s negotiations. But if he fails again, the Cowboys would have the upper hand.

Social media reacts to Dak Prescott’s projected contract extension

NFL fans on social media couldn’t fathom the idea of the Cowboys giving a $60 million per year contract extension to Dak Prescott. Fans believe the Cowboys won’t get better by giving Prescott an absurd amount of money.

It’s no secret Prescott has been a great QB for the Cowboys. However, fans hold the playoff losses against him as a reason for not wanting Dallas to give him a massive contract. Check out some of the reactions attached below.

Nonetheless, Prescott is expected to play next season in his current deal with a cap hit of $59.45 million. The Cowboys could reduce that number by signing him to an extension.
