Death, taxes, and Tom Brady hinting at coming back. Some things are inevitable in life. The seven-time Super Bowl champion is not content with his achievements and looks eager to make a return to the field if he gets an opportunity to do so.
Brady revealed on the DeepCut with VicBlends Show that he would not be opposed to the idea as he continues to stay in shape. He made an interesting comparison between himself and Michael Jordan ‘s decision to return to the NBA and play for the Washington Wizards late in his career.
While there is no telling if Tom Brady was kidding or being serious, Keyshawn Johnson of Undisputed on FS1 believes the former NFL quarterback is kidding.
Michael Jordan was able to return to the basketball court as the sport remained the same. It was easy for him to get used to its grueling nature once again, because he had done it in the past as well.
Tom Brady will have a hard time recovering from hits and injuries at this age in the NFL
When M.J. took a hiatus to play baseball and returned to the NBA a year later, he had made his body adapt quickly to basketball-centric training. In football, however, things are different. For a quarterback, it is no longer about just being able to throw the ball.
Brady cannot do the same in the NFL. Firstly, he will need to adapt to the offensive playbook of a team which varies from franchise to franchise, and secondly, he’s not going to be throwing the ball and not getting hit all day, QBs in their 30s struggled to recover from hits, to fathom a 47-year-old Tom Brady recovering from those in a matter of seconds or a week is just ridiculous.
The quarterback has on previous occasions, revealed his intent to play until he reaches the age of 50, which did seem like a real possibility. Especially after he barely lasted one month in retirement when he made the announcement for the first time. Another key part to note is the age difference between Brady and Jordan when they returned.
Jordan was 38 when he returned to the NBA and joined the Washington Wizards in 2001. Tom Brady is nearly a decade older than him. Despite MJ’s return to the league at that age, his career as a Wizard is forgettable. Have you ever heard anyone bring up Jordan’s tenure with the Wizards while speaking of his greatness? No, because he was no longer the same athlete that fans saw in Chicago.
It will be the same with Tom Brady. He will not be helping his legacy by making a return at this age. As hard as it is for him to process it, stay retired, Tom. You had a good run.
