Video of Lionel Messi organising Inter Miami’s defence for a set-piece goes viral

Messi produced another masterful performance for his new side as he bagged a stunning brace to steer his team into the next round of the Leagues Cup.

He opened the scoring in the sixth minute then levelled the game five minutes from time with a stunning free-kick to send the game into a penalty shootout.

Inter Miami went onto book their spot in the next round of the competition following their 5-3 penalty shootout victory.

The 36-year-old didn’t just get on the score-sheet and convert his spot-kick, but also showed off his leadership qualities and justified being made club captain.

During a FC Dallas set-piece, the Argentine can be seen talking to his teammates to sort the defensive wall.

Messi sorting Inter Miami’s defensive position sent social media wild.

One Twitter user wrote: “Remember when PSG players laid him down behind a wall.”

A second tweeted: “He is really better in Inter Miami than in PSG.”

A third added: “True leadership.”

A fourth said: “Captain for a reason.”

Messi has now scored an impressive seven goals in just four matches for Inter Miami as he enjoys a blistering start to life in the States.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will look to continue to inspire his team as he returns to action on Saturday when Inter Miami face Charlotte in the quarter-finals of the Leagues Cup.

The Florida-based outfit then take on Charlotte again in the MLS on August 21.

As shown in the video, the Argentine slowly and sneakily moved the ball a few feet to the left in order to have a better angle.

Inter Miami will now be up against Charlotte FC in the quarter-finals of the Leagues Cup.

In a recent interview, Messi’s new Inter Miami and former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba said: “He feels supported, loved and that’s the most important thing. At PSG he didn’t have a good time, but he recovered his joy. I repeat, it’s a challenge that personally excites him a lot and I see him very happy.

“Leo is a demanding person. He has won a World Cup. But he is going to continue [playing] the same. He is going to fight for this challenge, try to win everything and that’s why we’re here to help him.”
