Luis Suarez’s manager at Gremio blasts “problem” created by Lionel Messi

Luis Suarez’s coach at Gremio has sensationally admitted that the forward’s future is a “problem” amid speculation that he could join Lionel Messi in MLS.

The prolific goalscoring pair spent six glorious years together at Barcelona, scoring a staggering 406 goals between them in that time for the Camp Nou giants. With former teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets having joined Argentine icon Messi at Inter Miami this summer, speculation has linked his former striking partner with a move to South Beach.

Spanish outlet Diario Sport have reported that the 36-year-old could be willing to effectively buy out his contract with his current employers. It’s claimed legendary striker may potentially be open to paying back his wages from this calendar year and contributing an additional fee to leave the Brazilian outfit.

Suarez is believed to have already informed Gremio of his desire to depart the club this summer. The Uruguayan marksman has been with Gremio since the turn of the year and signed a two-year deal upon his arrival from boyhood club Nacional.

His head coach, Renato Gaucho has now issued an ultimatum to the powers-that-be at the club, while also suggesting that any decision over the ex-Liverpool star’s future is basically out of his hands. Putting the onus on the club’s president and the player to make a decision imminently, he appeared to be aggrieved by the forward’s antics, which have stepped up since Messi put pen to paper and the chance of a reunion became possible.

He said: “[Luis] Suarez is now a problem that is in the president’s hands. They are exchanging ideas. As a coach I have to focus on leading the team. seems like a Mexican soap opera that should end now. Until August 2 I’m quiet, then we’ll see how we continue.”

The 60-year-old boss did insist that he was eager to see the player stay at the club he joined in January but did admit that he was unable to guarantee that the 137-time international wanted to share this view. He added: “Of course we want Suarez to stay. I can’t vouch for him. I know what he thinks and what the club thinks. For now, he has been talking to the board and the president.”

“In order to be able to play he gives himself almost daily injections and special treatments, he is in constant pain. It is serious. Suarez has the possibility of being fitted with a prosthesis.”

However, the former Ajax striker mocked Guerra’s words after he scored in a 3-1 victory over América Mineiro just a day after the statement in question. Clearly seeing the funny side of things, Suarez then resolved to seemingly issue a tongue-in-cheek response, posting a zipper-mouth emoji on Instagram, accompanied by pictures from the game.
